On the Internet, I often see comments by people labeling otaku as pedophiles. I thought this contrasts with how people view otaku in general. Azuma points out that although “they consume numerous perverse images… they are surprisingly conservative toward actual perversion” (Azuma, 70). Something else that I found interesting is the discussion on the otaku’s sexuality. I also thought slice of life anime fit with Azuma’s discussion, in that they present small narratives at the surface, but viewers watch them mostly to enjoy the moe qualities. When reading that section, I thought of some slice of life anime such as K-On! and New Game!, and I could see how these anime uses and mixes elements of moe together to create characters. I think the discussion on the emphasis of moe elements is quite interesting. ![]()
